ED APPLAUDS BOSCOV’S SITE PLAN APPROVAL, BUT ASKS VOTERS TO CONSIDER CANDIDATES CLOSELY
Sinking Spring, PA – June 25, 2009 — At a Tuesday Planning Commission meeting, the board voted unanimously (4-0) to approve plans submitted for the former Boscov’s site in the borough. A vote is expected on the matter by the full council at the July 15 meeting.
“This news is fantastic. It means that seven years after the Boscov’s closed and the site began to deteriorate, we are one step closer to revitalizing this key section of Sinking Spring’s business district,” Ed said.
The site is expected to house a grocery store and four other retail locations which have yet to be named. With approval, demolition and construction could start as early as August.
Once this project is complete, it will serve as the keystone for the rest of the revitalization project. This project is key, as it sits right in the center of the business district and its completion would show the borough’s commitment to getting this project done.
But there’s one thing that stands in the way — and that is some of the candidates in the upcoming election. Who Sinking Spring elects in November will have serious consequences for the future of the project.
The only candidates in this race with a clear agenda for the future of the borough are Mayoral and council candidate Bruce Light, and council candidates Ed Oswald, Jim Pachuilo, and Denise Stine.
All four have laid out their agendas. This includes support for the revitalization effort which in turn will create jobs, spur the local economy, and add to our tax base.
What does this mean for you? Less need to increase taxes. Less of a need to travel far for the necessities. More opportunities. How could somebody be against that?
There’s only one problem. The other two candidates in this race are. Neither of them have been able to give a solid reason why the revitalization shouldn’t go on, but they’re quick to criticize it.
“Maybe we should call on these folks to give some solid reasoning, rather than looking for petty reasons to deride it,” Ed said.
Voters are waiting.
